Northern Pike

While Northern Pike aren't the most common species near Creston, Ohio, dedicated anglers can find them in certain locations. Chippewa Lake, being one of the larger bodies of water in the vicinity, offers a potential opportunity to target pike. Spring, right after ice-out, and fall, as water temperatures cool, are typically the best times. Pike will often be found near weed beds and shallow, weedy bays during these times. Large spinnerbaits, spoons, and crankbaits are effective lures. A local tip: focus on areas where creek channels enter the lake, as these can attract baitfish and, in turn, pike. The pike population here isn't huge, but some individuals can reach impressive sizes, potentially exceeding 30 inches. Be sure to use a wire leader to prevent bite-offs. Always consult the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) regulations for any specific rules regarding pike fishing, including size and creel limits.
