While not a renowned pike destination, Buckeye Lake near Glenford holds a population of Northern Pike that can provide a thrilling surprise for anglers. These ambush predators lurk in the weedy areas, waiting for unsuspecting prey. Spring and early summer (April-June) are the best times to target pike, as they are often found in shallower water near spawning areas. Focus your efforts around weed beds, docks, and submerged timber. Large spinnerbaits, spoons, and crankbaits are effective lure choices. Using a wire leader is essential to prevent pike from biting through your line. A local tactic is to troll large lures slowly along weed edges. Be prepared for a powerful strike and a hard fight. While Buckeye Lake doesn't produce trophy-sized pike consistently, fish in the 3-6 pound range are common, and larger individuals are occasionally caught. Boat ramps are available around the lake, providing easy access to prime pike habitat. Remember to handle pike carefully, as they have sharp teeth.
