Northern Pike

While not renowned as a pike hotspot, Grover Hill, Ohio, and the surrounding area can surprise anglers looking for northern pike. Your best bet is exploring the Auglaize River and its connected backwaters. Pike tend to congregate in areas with plenty of cover, so focus on weed edges, fallen trees, and submerged brush. Early spring, just after ice-out (if applicable), and late fall are typically the most productive times. Large spinnerbaits, spoons, and crankbaits are effective for covering water and triggering strikes. Consider using a wire leader, as pike have sharp teeth. Access to the river can be tricky in some areas, but there are a few public access points along county roads. Be prepared to do some exploring to find the most promising spots.
