Northern Pike

Northern Pike in the Lakeline, Ohio area are a challenging but rewarding target. While not as abundant as in some northern states, pike are present in some of the larger inland lakes and reservoirs connected to the Chagrin River watershed. Spring (March-April) just after ice-out is a fantastic time to target these predators as they are actively feeding to recover from the winter. Fall (October-November) is also productive as they bulk up before winter. Large swimbaits and jerkbaits are effective. A local pro-tip is to focus on weedy areas and submerged timber, as pike are ambush predators. Be sure to use a wire leader to prevent bite-offs. Pike in these waters can reach impressive sizes, so be prepared for a fight! Many anglers have success trolling larger lures along weed lines.
