Northern Pike

If you're targeting northern pike near Mifflin, Ohio, focus your efforts on the area's larger reservoirs and the slow-moving sections of the Black Fork Mohican River. While Ohio isn't known as a pike hotspot, these waters hold some surprisingly good fish. Spring, just after ice-out, and fall, as water temperatures cool, are prime times. Pike will be staging near spawning areas in the spring and actively feeding to bulk up before winter in the fall. Look for weedy bays, submerged timber, and creek inlets. For bank access, try the public access points along the Black Fork. A local tip: large, flashy lures like spinnerbaits and crankbaits are effective, but don't be afraid to experiment with large swimbaits to entice the bigger pike. Be prepared for toothy critters, so bring your wire leaders and long-nosed pliers. Remember to check Ohio's fishing regulations for size and bag limits, as these can change.
