Northern Pike

Targeting Northern Pike near North Fairfield, Ohio, requires a bit of exploration, but it can be rewarding. While not as abundant as in more northern regions, pike can be found in some of the larger reservoirs and rivers in the area. Charles Mill Lake and Clear Fork Reservoir are worth investigating. Look for weedy bays, submerged timber, and creek inlets – classic pike ambush points. Spring, just after ice-out, and fall are generally the best times to target pike. They are often found in shallower water during these periods. Large spinnerbaits, spoons, and crankbaits are effective lures. Don't be afraid to use a wire leader, as pike have sharp teeth. A local tip: Focus on the northern ends of reservoirs where creek channels enter; these areas often hold cooler water and attract baitfish, drawing in the pike. Also, be prepared for some casting as you may need to cover a lot of water to find active fish.
