Northern Pike

Pike fishing near Olmsted Falls, Ohio, requires a bit of exploration, but can be rewarding. While the Cuyahoga River itself holds some pike, your best bet is to explore the larger reservoirs and lakes within a reasonable drive. Hinckley Lake, part of the Cleveland Metroparks, is a popular option. Spring and early fall are the peak seasons for targeting these ambush predators. Pike are often found near weed beds, drop-offs, and creek mouths. Large spinnerbaits, spoons, and crankbaits are effective lures. Don't be afraid to use a wire leader, as pike have sharp teeth. A local tip is to focus on areas with submerged timber or rocky structure, as these provide excellent cover for pike to lie in wait.
