Northern Pike

Northern Pike in the Orangeville, Ohio area? While not as common as other species, they can be found in some of the larger reservoirs and rivers. Pymatuning Lake, just across the border in Pennsylvania but easily accessible from Orangeville, is your best bet. Focus on the weedy bays and submerged timber, particularly in the spring and fall when the water temperatures are cooler. Pike often ambush prey near these structures. Large spinnerbaits, spoons, and crankbaits are effective for covering water and triggering strikes. Don't be afraid to use a wire leader, as pike have sharp teeth. A local tip: target the areas where creek channels enter the main lake, as these often hold baitfish and, consequently, pike. Be prepared for a good fight; these fish can put up a serious battle, and Pymatuning is known for producing some surprisingly large pike.
