Northern Pike

If you're looking to tangle with Northern Pike in Ohio, consider a trip to the Parral area. While not as well-known as some of the larger northern Ohio fisheries, the smaller lakes, reservoirs and slow-moving stretches of the Tuscarawas River near Parral can hold some surprising pike. Spring is prime time, as the pike move into shallower water to spawn, making them more accessible. Early fall, as the water cools, is another excellent window. For bank access, try the public areas along the Tuscarawas River; look for areas with submerged timber or weed edges. A local tip: Pike in these waters can be opportunistic feeders, so don't be afraid to experiment with larger lures, like swimbaits or crankbaits, to trigger a strike. Be prepared for some variation in size; while trophy pike are possible, you'll likely encounter a mix of smaller and mid-sized fish. Remember to check the Ohio Department of Natural Resources regulations for size and bag limits before heading out.
