Northern Pike

Chasing Northern Pike around Port Jefferson, Ohio, requires a strategy that considers the unique blend of Lake Erie’s shoreline and tributary influence. While not as renowned as some northern pike fisheries, the areas around Sandusky Bay and the Portage River offer opportunities. Spring is prime time, as pike move into shallow, weedy bays to spawn shortly after ice-out. Look for warmer water in the backs of these bays. Large spinnerbaits, spoons, and crankbaits worked around emerging vegetation are productive.
