Northern Pike

Looking to tangle with Northern Pike near Powell, Ohio? While not as abundant as in some northern lakes, the Scioto River and its tributaries offer pockets of opportunity. Focus your efforts in the colder months – late fall through early spring – when pike are most active. Look for them in areas with submerged timber, weed beds, and near the mouths of creeks entering the river. During the spawn (early spring), they will move into shallower backwater areas. A great access point is the Scioto River Greenway, offering bank fishing and access for small boats. Local tip: Pike in this section of the Scioto can be line-shy, so consider using fluorocarbon leaders.
