Northern Pike

While not a renowned pike destination, Seville, Ohio, and its surrounding areas do offer some limited opportunities to tangle with Northern Pike. Several of the larger reservoirs and lakes in Medina County hold populations of pike, although they may not be as abundant as in more northern locations. Look for pike in areas with dense weed beds, submerged timber, and along rocky shorelines – classic ambush points for these predators. The best time to target pike near Seville is in the early spring, shortly after ice-out, and again in the fall as water temperatures cool. Pike are ambush predators, so focus on areas where they can easily hide and strike at passing prey. Many of the lakes in the area have limited public access, so scouting and finding the right entry points is essential. Pike in this region can be somewhat finicky, so experiment with different lures and retrieve speeds. Large spinnerbaits, spoons, and crankbaits are all effective choices. Be sure to use a wire leader to prevent bite-offs, as pike have very sharp teeth.
