Northern Pike

While not a primary destination for Northern Pike, Yankee Lake can surprise anglers with the occasional toothy critter. Pike are ambush predators, and Yankee Lake's weedy environment provides ideal habitat. Early spring, just after ice-out, and late fall, as the water cools, are the best times to target pike. They tend to be more active in cooler water. A boat is recommended for covering the lake effectively, allowing you to reach the weedy areas where pike are likely to be lurking. Use larger lures, such as spoons, spinnerbaits, and crankbaits, and don't forget a wire leader to prevent bite-offs. Focus your efforts around weed edges and drop-offs. Pike in Yankee Lake aren't usually huge, but they can provide a thrilling fight. Be prepared with long-nosed pliers for safely removing hooks from their toothy jaws.
