Northern Pike

If you're after Northern Pike in the Cochranton, PA, area, your best bet is Lake Wilhelm (also known as Goddard Lake). This lake boasts a healthy pike population and plenty of suitable habitat. Spring and early summer, after the spawn, are excellent times to target these toothy predators. Pike often lurk near weed beds and submerged timber, waiting to ambush prey. Large spinnerbaits, spoons, and crankbaits are proven pike lures. Try trolling these lures along the edges of weed lines or casting them into pockets in the vegetation. For bank anglers, the causeway offers access to deeper water and can be productive. Be sure to use a wire leader to prevent pike from biting through your line. Note that Lake Wilhelm can get busy, especially on weekends, so consider fishing during the week or early in the morning to avoid crowds.
