Northern Pike

Looking for a good pike fishing spot in northwestern Pennsylvania? Elgin offers access to some lesser-known but productive waters for Northern Pike. While not a trophy fishery, the Brokenstraw Creek watershed, including smaller tributaries and impoundments near Elgin, holds a decent population of pike that are often overlooked. Spring is prime time as the pike move into shallower, weedy areas to spawn after ice-out. Early mornings and late evenings are best. A practical tip: Focus your efforts in areas with submerged timber or thick vegetation, especially near creek mouths entering larger bodies of water. Pike in this region can be opportunistic feeders, so a variety of lures can work, but larger swimbaits and spoons are often successful. Be aware that access to some areas may require landowner permission, so always check regulations and be respectful of private property. The pike here aren't generally huge, averaging 20-28 inches, but they fight hard and provide excellent sport.
