Northern Pike

If you're hunting Northern Pike in central Pennsylvania, the Susquehanna River near Liverpool is a worthwhile destination. The stretch of river here, with its abundant structure from submerged trees and rocky outcroppings, provides excellent habitat. Pike fishing is generally best during the cooler months. Spring (especially after ice-out) and fall are prime times as the fish are actively feeding. Targeting areas near creek mouths or where there's a noticeable current break can be very productive. Access to the river is available at several points along Route 11/15, but be mindful of private property. Launching a small boat or kayak can significantly expand your fishing range. Local tip: heavier tackle is recommended as the Susquehanna can have strong currents, and the pike can be surprisingly large and aggressive. Some anglers have reported success using large swimbaits or bucktails in natural colors.
