Northern Pike

Targeting northern pike near Ridgway? The Allegheny Reservoir (Kinzua Lake) is your best bet. This large reservoir has the weedy bays and submerged timber that pike love. Spring, after ice-out, and fall, as the water cools, are prime times to target these predators. They tend to be in shallower water during these times, actively feeding. Look for them around weed beds, submerged timber, and creek mouths. Local tip: A boat is almost essential for pike fishing on Kinzua. Use large lures and steel leaders, as pike have sharp teeth. Jerkbaits, spinnerbaits, and large swimbaits are all effective. Focus your efforts in the northern sections of the lake, where there tends to be more shallow water and vegetation. Pike in Kinzua can reach impressive sizes, so be prepared for a battle!
