Northern Pike

In the fall, pike feed heavily to prepare for winter, making them aggressive and willing to strike. A local tip: focus on areas with current breaks and ambush points. The Tidioute area has multiple boat launches providing river access. Be sure to use a wire leader to prevent bite-offs, as pike have sharp teeth. The pike in the Allegheny River can reach impressive sizes, with fish over 40 inches reported. Be prepared for a hard fight when you hook one of these toothy critters.
