Rainbow Trout

Shaver Lake offers excellent Rainbow Trout fishing amidst the stunning Sierra Nevada scenery. The lake is regularly stocked, ensuring a healthy population of catchable rainbows. Spring and early summer are particularly productive, as the trout are actively feeding near the surface after ice-out. Trolling with spoons or spinners is a popular method, especially near the dam and in the deeper sections of the lake. Fly fishing can also be rewarding, particularly in the early morning or late evening when the trout are rising to take insects. A local tip is to experiment with different depths until you find where the fish are holding. The trout tend to follow the thermocline as the water warms. Access to the lake is readily available via several public boat ramps and shoreline access points. Shaver Lake rainbows are generally good fighters, and some larger holdovers can be found, particularly in the deeper sections of the lake.
