Rainbow Trout

While Fall River isn't renowned for its trout fishing, there are a few smaller streams and ponds in the surrounding area stocked with rainbow trout, providing opportunities for anglers. The best time to target these rainbows is in the spring, shortly after stocking, and again in the fall when water temperatures cool down. Check the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife stocking reports to find out which waters have been recently stocked. Small spinners, spoons, and live bait like worms or mealworms are effective for catching these trout. Many of the accessible ponds are smaller and can be fished from shore. Consider exploring the smaller tributaries of the larger rivers; some of these may hold trout that have migrated from the stocked ponds. Be aware of local regulations regarding catch limits and size restrictions, which can vary from water to water.
