Rainbow Trout

While Arbela, Missouri, might not be the first place that comes to mind for trout fishing, the nearby small lakes and streams offer surprising opportunities for rainbow trout, especially those stocked by the Missouri Department of Conservation. These stockings typically occur in the spring and fall, making these seasons the prime times to target rainbows. Look for deeper pools and areas with submerged structure; trout often congregate in these spots. A lightweight spinning rod with 4-6 pound test line is ideal, and small spinners, spoons, and trout magnets are effective lures. Don't overlook natural baits like worms or corn. Access to many of these stocked areas is relatively easy, often with parking areas nearby. Be sure to check the MDC's website for the latest stocking reports and regulations. Remember that the water can be quite clear, so using stealth and making long casts can improve your success rate.
