Rainbow Trout

While Galena, Missouri, isn't exactly a rainbow trout mecca, the nearby Roaring River State Park offers excellent trout fishing opportunities. The Roaring River is heavily stocked, making it a great place for both novice and experienced anglers. The best time to fish here is undoubtedly during the spring and fall when the water temperatures are cooler and the trout are more active. During the summer, early morning and late evening are your best bets. A local tip is to use small spinners or PowerBait near the hatchery outflow for consistent action. Fly fishing is also popular, with nymphs and streamers being effective. Access to the river is excellent, with well-maintained trails and designated fishing areas. The trout in Roaring River are primarily stockers, but some holdover fish can reach impressive sizes. Be sure to check the park's regulations regarding fishing licenses and creel limits.
