While Sedalia itself doesn't have readily accessible rainbow trout streams, anglers willing to travel a bit can find stocked trout waters within a few hours' drive. The Missouri Department of Conservation regularly stocks several streams and lakes throughout the state, including some in the Ozarks region. Check their website for stocking schedules and locations. Spring and fall are ideal times to target these stocked rainbows, as the water temperatures are more favorable. Small spinners, spoons, and prepared trout baits are all effective options. Fly fishing with nymphs and dry flies can also be productive. A practical tip: be prepared for crowds, especially shortly after stocking. Arriving early and fishing during off-peak hours can increase your chances of success. Also, remember to purchase a trout permit in addition to your regular fishing license.
