Rainbow Trout

While Wellington, Missouri isn't exactly known as a trout mecca, dedicated anglers can find stocked rainbow trout in some of the smaller lakes and ponds within a reasonable driving distance. The Missouri Department of Conservation does stock trout in select locations, particularly during the cooler months. Check their stocking schedules online before planning your trip. Early spring and late fall, immediately following stocking, are your best bets. Light tackle and small baits like PowerBait, worms, or small spinners are typically effective. A key tip is to fish early in the morning or late in the evening, as the trout tend to be more active during these cooler periods. Remember that these are stocked fish, so they can be relatively naive, but also easily spooked in clear water. Stealth and finesse are key to success.
