Rainbow Trout

Rainbow trout fishing near Corfu, New York, centers primarily around the tributaries flowing into Lake Ontario. While Corfu itself doesn't have significant trout streams, nearby Oak Orchard Creek and other smaller creeks offer seasonal opportunities, especially during the spring and fall runs. These fish are typically migratory, moving into the streams to spawn. Spring (March-May) is excellent for targeting steelhead (migratory rainbows) as they return to the lake, while the fall (September-November) sees another influx of spawning fish. Access can be challenging in some areas due to private land, so be sure to check regulations and obtain permission where necessary. A practical tip is to use egg sacs or small artificial nymphs drifted naturally under an indicator. The rainbow trout in these streams can be surprisingly large, often exceeding 5 pounds, offering a thrilling fight in the relatively confined waters.
