Rainbow Trout

Estacada, Oregon, is a fantastic base for chasing rainbow trout in the heart of the Cascade foothills. The Clackamas River is the star attraction, offering both stocked and wild fish. For stocked rainbows, focus on the sections closer to Estacada, particularly after stocking events. Wild rainbows are more prevalent upstream, requiring a bit more skill and finesse to catch. Spring and fall are generally the best times to fish, as the water temperatures are moderate and the trout are actively feeding. Early mornings and late evenings often produce the best results. A great access point is Milo McIver State Park, which provides easy access to the river and plenty of bank fishing opportunities. Also, remember that the Clackamas can experience rapid water level changes, especially after rainfall, so always check the river conditions before heading out. The rainbows in this area are known for their fight, so be prepared for a good battle!
