Walleye

While not as widely known as some other Oregon fisheries, Estacada offers a unique opportunity to target walleye in the Clackamas River. While the walleye population isn't huge, the chance to catch them in a scenic river environment is a draw for many anglers. The best time to target walleye here is typically in the spring and fall, when water temperatures are cooler. Focus your efforts in deeper pools and runs, especially near structure like submerged rocks or logs. Jigs tipped with nightcrawlers or minnows are a popular and effective method. Trolling with crankbaits can also be productive, especially in the larger pools. Access points along Highway 224 provide opportunities to fish the river. Be aware of the river's current and potential hazards, especially during periods of high water. Walleye in the Clackamas are often smaller than those found in larger reservoirs, but the thrill of catching them in this beautiful river setting makes it a worthwhile pursuit.
