Rainbow Trout

Elma, Washington, offers some surprisingly good rainbow trout fishing, primarily in the Satsop River and its tributaries. What makes this area special is the mix of hatchery-stocked fish and wild populations, providing opportunities for anglers of all skill levels. Spring and early summer are prime times, as the water warms and the trout become more active after the winter months. Fall can also be productive as the trout feed heavily in preparation for spawning. For easy access, try the various bridge crossings along the East and West Forks of the Satsop; many have pull-offs for parking. Be aware that river levels can fluctuate rapidly with rainfall, so check conditions before heading out.
