Rainbow Trout

The Elmer City region provides some excellent freshwater opportunities for rainbow trout, primarily within the Columbia River reservoirs and their tributaries. For a good chance at rainbows, focus on the Spokane River arm of Lake Roosevelt. Spring and fall are prime times, with trout actively feeding as water temperatures moderate. During the warmer summer months, early mornings and evenings are your best bet, or try targeting deeper water. A popular local tactic involves trolling wedding ring spinners or spoons behind a dodger. Bank fishing access is available at several points along the Spokane River, but a boat will significantly expand your reach. Be mindful of kokanee anglers, as these fisheries often overlap, and avoid tangling lines. Also, check the WDFW regulations for specific size and catch limits for the area you plan to fish.
