Vancouver, Washington, offers some surprisingly good rainbow trout fishing opportunities close to the city. Focus your efforts on the smaller tributaries of the Columbia River, such as Lacamas Creek and the Washougal River. These streams are often stocked with hatchery rainbows, providing excellent action, especially in the spring and fall. Spring brings warmer weather and active fish, while fall sees returning salmon runs, which stir up the trout. For bank access, Lacamas Lake Regional Park is a great option, offering shoreline fishing and boat launch facilities. Remember to check the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) regulations for specific stream closures and gear restrictions, as some areas are fly-fishing only. The rainbows here aren't typically huge, averaging 10-14 inches, but they are aggressive and eager to take a well-presented fly or lure. Local tip: small spinners and spoons can be particularly effective in the faster-moving sections of the Washougal.
