Redfish

Darien, Georgia, situated near the Altamaha River delta, is a redfish paradise. The maze of tidal creeks, spartina grass flats, and oyster bars provides an ideal habitat for these copper-colored beauties. The best times to target redfish here are during the spring and fall, when water temperatures are moderate and the fish are actively feeding. Focus your efforts around the mouths of creeks, along grass edges, and near oyster bars, especially during periods of moving water. A local tip is to use the tides to your advantage; redfish often congregate in areas where the current is strong, ambushing baitfish as they're swept along. Public boat ramps provide easy access to the water. The redfish population in the Darien area is healthy, with a good mix of slot-sized fish and larger bull reds. Consider using weedless lures or topwater baits in the shallow grass flats for an exciting visual experience.
