A productive tactic is to use natural-looking presentations like crawfish imitations or small swimbaits. Be prepared to adjust your depth based on the current and water temperature; smallmouth tend to hold in deeper water during periods of high flow or extreme temperatures. A key to success here is understanding the generation schedule of the dam; fishing can be significantly impacted by water level fluctuations. Access is available at multiple points along the river, including the Collins Creek access, but be mindful of swift currents and slippery rocks.
