Targeting smallmouth bass near Parker Dam means focusing your efforts on the Colorado River and Lake Havasu. This area is known for its rocky shorelines and submerged structure, which provide ideal habitat for smallies. Spring and fall are the prime times to fish for smallmouth here, as they become more active during these periods. During the spawn in the spring, look for beds in shallow, protected coves. In the fall, smallmouth will often school up and feed aggressively before winter. A key to success is understanding the water levels and clarity, which can fluctuate due to dam operations. Launching from one of the many boat ramps along the Colorado River provides excellent access. Try using crankbaits, tubes, and drop-shot rigs to entice strikes. Remember, the smallmouth in this region can be particularly wary, so using lighter line and natural presentations can often improve your chances.
