Smallmouth Bass

While Victor, Idaho is better known for trout, determined anglers can find Smallmouth Bass opportunities within a reasonable drive. The Snake River, further downstream from the South Fork, holds populations of smallmouth, particularly in the sections with more rocky structure and slower currents. Summer is prime time for smallmouth, as the water warms and they become more active. Topwater lures like poppers and walking baits can produce exciting strikes in the early morning or late evening. Crankbaits and jigs are also effective when fished around rocks and submerged timber. Be prepared for some travel, as the best smallmouth fishing isn't immediately adjacent to Victor. Check river access points and boat ramps downstream, and be mindful of private property along the riverbanks.
