Smallmouth Bass

Clermont, Indiana, while not immediately known as a smallmouth mecca, offers surprisingly good opportunities for bronzeback enthusiasts. Eagle Creek Reservoir is the primary draw here. The rocky shorelines, submerged timber, and varied structure of the reservoir provide excellent habitat. Spring and fall are prime times, as the smallmouth move into shallower water to spawn or feed aggressively before winter. Focus on areas near the dam and along the causeway for deeper water access. A local tip: the northern end of the reservoir, accessible from the 71st Street bridge, tends to have less boat traffic and can hold some real surprises. Be prepared to fish a variety of lures – crankbaits, tubes, and jerkbaits are all effective. Water clarity can fluctuate, so adjust your presentation accordingly. Clermont's smallmouth tend to be scrappy fighters, making for an enjoyable angling experience.
