Smallmouth Bass

If you're targeting smallmouth bass in northern Indiana, consider a trip to Monon. While not as well-known as some of the larger fisheries in the state, the Tippecanoe River near Monon offers excellent smallie fishing, especially in the rocky stretches and around submerged structure. Spring and fall are prime times, as the fish are actively feeding to spawn or fatten up for winter. During the summer months, early morning and late evening are your best bets to beat the heat and find active fish. For bank access, try the public access points along the river near the town of Monon. Be aware that water levels can fluctuate, so check conditions before you go. Local anglers often have success with crankbaits, tubes, and jigs worked along the bottom. The smallmouth here aren't giants, but they are plentiful and feisty, providing a fun and rewarding fishing experience.
