While St. Joe, Indiana, might not be the first place that comes to mind for smallmouth bass, the St. Joseph River does offer some opportunities for anglers willing to explore. Late spring and early fall are the most productive times, as the water temperatures are ideal. Throw crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and jigs that imitate crayfish or other small forage. A key local tip: wade fishing is a popular and effective method, but be aware of the current and slippery rocks. Public access points are somewhat limited, so research your options beforehand.
