Harbor Springs offers fantastic smallmouth bass fishing, primarily in Little Traverse Bay. The bay's clear waters and rocky structure create ideal habitat. Spring and early summer, as the water warms, see the bass moving into shallower areas to spawn. Focus your efforts around docks, piers, and submerged rock piles during this time. Later in the summer and into fall, they often move deeper, relating to ledges and drop-offs. A key to success here is matching your presentation to the prevalent forage. Early season, smaller crankbaits and tubes work well, mimicking gobies and other small baitfish. As the season progresses, larger swimbaits and jerkbaits can trigger strikes from aggressive fish. Public access is readily available at the Harbor Springs City Marina, providing easy boat launching. Be mindful of wind conditions on the bay, as it can pick up quickly, creating challenging conditions.
