Northern Pike

Targeting Northern Pike around Harbor Springs means exploring the weedy areas of Little Traverse Bay and the adjacent inland lakes. Spring and early summer are prime times, as pike move into the shallows to spawn. Look for them near emerging weed beds and in back bays. As the water warms, they'll often seek refuge in deeper weedlines or near structure. Large spinnerbaits, spoons, and crankbaits are effective for covering water and triggering reaction strikes. Don't be afraid to use larger baits, as the pike in this area can be quite aggressive. A local secret is to focus on areas where creek mouths enter the bay, as these areas often attract baitfish and, in turn, pike. Be prepared for some exciting topwater action in the early morning or late evening. Access to the bay is readily available from multiple public boat launches.
