Smallmouth Bass

Kent City offers some surprisingly good smallmouth bass fishing, though you'll need to explore a bit to find the best spots. While not known for huge populations, the Rogue River, which flows nearby, and some of the larger creeks offer rocky structure and deeper pools that hold smallies. The key is to find sections of the rivers that aren't heavily pressured. Summer is the prime time, especially early mornings and evenings when the bass are most active. Look for areas with current breaks, submerged logs, and rocky outcroppings. A great local tip is to try fishing the Rogue River near bridge crossings, as the pilings often create eddies that hold fish. Also, consider using crayfish imitations or small crankbaits to entice strikes. Access can be tricky in some areas, so be prepared for some walking and scouting to find the best fishing holes.
