Smallmouth Bass

While Lakewood Club is renowned for its largemouth bass, the interconnected inland lakes also hold a decent population of smallmouth. Targeting smallmouth here requires a slightly different approach than largemouth. Focus on areas with rocky bottoms, points, and drop-offs. These can be found in the clearer, deeper sections of the lakes. The best time to target smallmouth is during the spring and fall months when water temperatures are cooler. Try using crankbaits, tube jigs, or drop-shot rigs. A local tip: Pay attention to wind direction, as smallmouth often congregate on the windward side of the lake. Access to the lakes can be limited, so identifying public access points is crucial. The smallmouth in this area may not be as large as those found in the Great Lakes, but they are known for their aggressive strikes and spirited fights.
