Smallmouth Bass

Birchwood Village offers excellent access to smallmouth bass fishing in the clear waters of White Bear Lake. This lake is known for its healthy population of bronzebacks, and their willingness to attack a variety of lures and flies. Look for rocky points, submerged weed beds, and docks, especially along the eastern shoreline. The best times to target smallmouth are in the spring, during the pre-spawn period, and again in the fall as they fatten up for winter. Summer can also be productive, but focus on deeper water and early morning or late evening hours. A practical tip: White Bear Lake can get busy with recreational boaters, especially on weekends, so consider fishing during the week or early in the day. There are several public access points around the lake, including one near the village hall. Local anglers often have success with crankbaits, tubes, and topwater lures worked around structure.
