Smallmouth Bass

While Harding, Minnesota, isn't primarily known for smallmouth bass, they can be found in certain areas, particularly in the swifter-flowing sections of the Mississippi River and connected lakes with rocky structures. Target areas with current breaks, submerged boulders, and points extending into the main channel. Smallmouth fishing is best during the warmer months, from late spring through early fall. They become more active as the water temperature rises. A productive strategy is to use crankbaits or tubes in rocky areas. Access to the river can be limited, so check for public access points and be prepared to navigate potentially challenging water conditions. The smallmouth population here may not be as dense as in other areas of the state, but the fish you do catch tend to be scrappy fighters, making for an exciting angling experience.
