Smallmouth Bass

While Lamberton isn't nationally known for its smallmouth bass, anglers can find decent populations in the Redwood River and some of the larger lakes and reservoirs within a reasonable drive. The Redwood River, though often overlooked, holds some surprisingly feisty smallies, particularly in the deeper pools and near rocky structures. Focus your efforts on areas with current breaks. Spring and early summer, after the spawn, are prime times. Fall can also be productive as bass fatten up before winter. A key local tip: water clarity can be variable, especially after rain, so pack a range of lures from natural-looking crankbaits to brighter-colored spinnerbaits to adapt to the conditions. Public access can be limited in some areas, so research access points beforehand and be prepared for some walking. Remember that the Redwood River is prone to flooding, so check water levels before you go.
