Smallmouth Bass

Sunrise Beach serves as an excellent base for targeting smallmouth bass in the Lake of the Ozarks. While the lake is better known for largemouth, the clearer, rockier sections hold a healthy population of smallies. Look for them around points, bluffs, and rocky shorelines, especially in the lower, clearer sections of the lake. Spring and fall are prime times, with the pre-spawn and post-spawn periods offering some of the best action. During the summer, focus on deeper structure and use techniques like drop-shotting or Carolina rigging. A local tip: Pay attention to water clarity. Smallmouth tend to prefer clearer water than largemouth, so focus your efforts accordingly. Public access is readily available via numerous boat ramps around the lake. The smallmouth bass in Lake of the Ozarks are known for their aggressive strikes and powerful fights, making them a prized target for anglers. Fish in the 3-5 pound range are not uncommon.
