Smallmouth Bass

Juniata Terrace offers some excellent smallmouth bass fishing in the Juniata River. What makes this stretch special is the combination of rocky shoals, deeper pools, and submerged structure that create ideal habitat. The smallies here are known for their aggressive strikes and fighting spirit. Fall is prime time, as the bass are actively feeding before winter, but the pre-spawn period in late spring can also be very productive. For bank access, try the public access points along the river near Mifflintown, a short drive from Juniata Terrace. Wading can be productive in the warmer months, but be cautious of slippery rocks and fluctuating water levels. Locals often have luck with tube baits and crankbaits worked along the rocky bottoms. Also, keep an eye out for crayfish – imitating their movement and color can trigger strikes from even the most wary smallmouth.
