Smallmouth Bass

While Federal Way isn't the first place that comes to mind for smallmouth bass fishing in Washington, dedicated anglers can find them in the nearby Green River. The Green River offers decent smallmouth fishing, particularly in the summer and early fall when the water warms up. Focus on areas with rocky structure, submerged logs, and current breaks – smallies love to ambush prey in these spots. Access can be a bit challenging; look for public access points along the river near Auburn or downstream from Flaming Geyser State Park. Wading can be effective in some areas, but be mindful of changing water levels, especially after rainfall. Smallmouth in the Green River tend to be on the smaller side, but the thrill of the hunt in a less-pressured environment makes it worthwhile. Try using crayfish imitations, tubes, or small crankbaits worked along the bottom. Remember to check the WDFW fishing regulations for specific rules on the Green River.
