Rainbow trout fishing is readily accessible from Federal Way, with numerous lakes and streams within a short drive. Steel Lake and Lake Geneva are popular local options that are often stocked with rainbows, offering good opportunities for both bank fishing and from small boats. Spring and fall are generally the best times to fish for trout, as the water temperatures are more favorable. For Steel Lake, try fishing near the inlet or outlet, or along the weed lines. Worms, PowerBait, and small spinners are effective baits. Lake Geneva offers similar tactics, but also consider trolling small spoons or flies. The trout in these lakes are typically of hatchery origin, so they tend to be relatively easy to catch. Remember to check the WDFW stocking reports to see when the lakes were last stocked for the best chances of success. Don't forget your fishing license!
