Spotted Bass
While Largemouth Bass get much of the attention around Orlando, the spotted bass offers a fun and challenging alternative, although they are not as prolific as largemouth in this region. Targeting spots requires a slightly different approach. Look for them in the deeper, clearer waters of the Butler Chain of Lakes, particularly near docks, submerged brush piles, and rocky points. These bass prefer cooler water and are often found holding near structure. A Carolina rig with a finesse worm or a small crankbait can be effective. Local tip: Many of the canals connecting the Butler Chain lakes hold spotted bass. These canals offer good bank fishing access, although they can get crowded. Remember that spotted bass tend to be more sensitive to fishing pressure than largemouth, so try using lighter line and more natural presentations. While not as large as their largemouth cousins, spotted bass are aggressive fighters for their size.
