Spotted Bass

Spotted bass aren't typically associated with Nebraska, but if you're in Carroll and specifically targeting them, you'll need to manage your expectations and adjust your strategy. Spotted bass are rare in this part of Nebraska. Any reports are likely misidentified fish or the result of unauthorized introductions. Focus your efforts on areas with rocky bottoms and submerged structure in the Elkhorn River, which is the closest major river system. Small crankbaits and jigs worked slowly along the bottom can sometimes produce results. Be prepared to catch more of the other species that thrive in the area, such as smallmouth bass, and always double-check your identification to ensure you're not misidentifying another species as a spotted bass.
